Most burglars are opportunistic, follow these safety tips to avoid becoming a target!
Lighten Up. Install bright lights over porches and walk ways in the front and back of your home. Also use interior lights on timers while you're away
Lock Up. Use reliable dead-bolt door locks and sturdy window latches. Keep all outside doors and windows locked at all times.
Install Peepholes. Peepholes with magnifying lenses allow you to confirm who's at the door before you open it.
Park in the Driveway. Parking a car on the driveway gives the appearance that someone is always home and prevents easy access for drive up burglars.
Trim the Hedges. Tall hedges provide hiding places for burglars. Keep bushes and shrubs trimmed under windows so burglars can't hide.
Don't Provide Access. Close and lock garage doors to protect valuables stored there and prevent access to your home.
Be Careful With Spare Keys. Burglars routinely check under flower pots, welcome mats, and mail boxes. If you must have a hide-a-key be creative.
Suspend Mail Delivery. Piled up newspapers lets burglars know no one is home. Arrange to have mail delivery suspended or collected while you're away.
Make Noise. Tune stereo or TV to your favorite station when you leave the house. To a burglar, noise indicates that someone is home and is a deterrent.
Arm Your Home. A monitored security system is the #1 deterrent to burglars and pedophiles. Whether you're home or away, arm your system for the ones you love.
